Important Notice – Updated Adult CPR Guidance (2025)
This video reflects the updated 2025 Resuscitation Council (UK) Guidelines for Adult Basic Life Support. Key updates include earlier activation of emergency services and reinforced guidance on recognising cardiac arrest and starting CPR without delay.
- Early 999 Call: Emergency services should be contacted as soon as a casualty is found unresponsive, before breathing is assessed. Breathing checks should be carried out while on the phone.
- 999 Call Handler Support: First aiders are encouraged to place phones on speaker and follow call handler instructions while care begins.
- CPR on Soft Surfaces: First aiders are no longer expected to move casualties from beds or other soft surfaces. Increase compression depth where possible.
- Agonal Breathing: Gasping or abnormal breathing is not normal breathing. CPR must not be delayed.
- AED Pad Placement & Clothing: Greater emphasis is placed on correct pad placement, including removing or repositioning clothing (such as bras) where required. Life-saving actions take priority over modesty.
This updated guidance should be followed in line with current Resuscitation Council (UK) best practice.
